GOP Field Rips Gun Control Laws
President Obama has made an attempt to use his power to circumvent Congress in creating stricter gun control laws. Obama is preparing to use his executive action to tighten the gun laws. This plan is not thought of being very productive considering the Congress already failed to pass a comprehensive gun control act in 2012. Since the President realizes that he cannot get Congress to approve it, he is taking matters into his own hands and establishing it himself.
“The president is a petulant child,” GOP candidate New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie told “Fox News Sunday.” “Whenever he doesn’t get what he wants, … this president acts like a king.”
This relates to our class because gun control is a very heated topic around the country and we even have had a debate about it in class. In class, we all agreed upon the fact that we thought that in the wake of the multiple school shootings, revisions should be made in order to make buying a gun more difficult. This is not the point this article is trying to make, this article explains how the President is overstepping his boundaries in creating this executive action. The checks and balances system we have is great but trouble does arise when the President evades the system when he knows he will not be successful. I believe that while there probably should be a tightening of gun control laws, the President shouldn't use his executive privileges in order to get it done.
