Florida cop's wife arrested for stealing child's Christmas gifts from Porch
Did you know that 23 million people nation wide have had packages stolen? This problem is highlighted around Christmas time when gifts are very often left on porches by mailmen. In this particular instance, Dana Hagar, a 42 year old lady was caught stealing a present from a house. The ironic thing is that she was the wife of a police officer. The gift was a children's toy a family bought for their 2 year old daughter.
The police officers wife was caught by the families surveillance camera on their front porch. This real life Grinch is currently being held in jail for theft. This relates to our class because we are learning about important court cases. The Supreme court case in Miranda vs. Arizona in 1966 relates to this theft case. This is because when Dana was arrested, she was read her "Miranda rights". These Miranda rights were created after the court case that says a criminal must be read their rights as they are being arrested. I believe that something needs to be done to stop the stealing of these gifts. The solution I have thought of is for packages worth over $100 should have a GPS device to track in case of theft.
