Unauthorized Immigrant Population

It is estimated that right around 11.3 million unauthorized immigrants are living in the united states today.  These illegal immigrants are taking American jobs from the American people.  While this is a terrible situation we have on our hands, it could be worse.  This number rose from 3.5 million in 1990, to 12.2 million in 2007.  If this pattern would’ve continued, we would have around 16 million illegal immigrants living on American soil today.  Luckily the number dropped to 11 million in 2009 and has plateaued around there since.  Researchers believe that the recession that began in 2007 caused the decline in the number of immigrants.

U.S. Unauthorized Immigrant Population Levels Off
This relates to class because the president, along with the presidential candidates all have their own views on this topic.  President Obama took executive action to create a program that would offer work permits and deportation relief to about 5 million of these illegal immigrants.  On the other hand, Donald trump thinks that a massive wall should be build to stop the illegals from getting in from Mexico.  Along with this, he wants to round up every illegal immigrant and transport them back to where they came.  Ben Carson, another candidate, thinks this is unrealistic and would cost way too much money.  I agree with Carson on that point and that’s why I am leaning more towards the President’s plan.  I think most of these immigrants would work very hard if given work permits which I think would benefit the country.

  1. I definitely agree with this. The government should do everything they can to stop immigrants from coming to America. They take our jobs that our citizens need so dearly.
