School Board Settles With Families of Students Who Died After Being Hypnotized by Principal

The North Port high school hypnotized over 75 students during his tenure.  The fact that this happened is staggering and it is unbelievable that he did all of this without a license.  Where this all went wrong was four years ago when three of his students that he had hypnotized and also taught to self hypnotize all died.  Two of them died from suicide and one died from a car crash.  The one who drove in the wreck was driving his girlfriend who survived the crash.  She said that her boyfriend had a "look on his face that she had never seen before" right before he swerved off of the road.  This was because he self hypnotized himself before getting into the car.  The school board just ruled in favor of giving the families $200,000 to say they were sorry.  The principal only received one year probation.

This relates to the class because we talk about court cases in class and I find it hard to believe that the principal didn't even have to serve time.  First he was performing hypnotics illegally without a license.  Second, he was using his stage, the principal, to do it on students of his.  Finally, it was obviously evident enough that he was the cause of the kids death because the probably economically depleted school board gave the families in total $600,000.  I am not a lawyer and wasn't in the court room but if one of the two suicide victims were my kid and I knew the principal had something to do with the suicide, I would want there to be a punishment laid down on him.

  1. I agree that the principal should have had a greater punishment. Two people died because of his hypnotism and just because it cannot be proven that it was his direct hypnotism, we can infer that he had a large part in both of the boy's deaths. He should be at least fired and hopefully spend some time behind bars.
