Two football players from a high school football team in Texas were ejected from a game after hitting an official during a play. The video shows one player maliciously knocking the ref down and then the other player spearing him in the back. The two players story is that the referee said, "Throw the f***ing ball at me again, n****r." Once the players went back to the sideline and told the coach what they said, he responded by telling them they should retaliate. While hitting a helpless ref in the back is totally wrong, so is the racial slur uttered by the referee.
This applies to our class because an African American player was called a n****r by a white referee. Racial discrimination is not allowed, and things like this should never be said. The official has to know not to act like that and he should be punished by the education or athletic system. I believe that while he acted very wrong in calling the players a racial slur, it still doesn't give the coach an excuse to tell his kids to hit/punish the official. The coach should have just reported the official the next day to the proper people and been done with it.
Even though I believe that violence is not the answer, that ref should not be using racial slurs towards the player, or even towards anyone! That is uncalled for, and the adults should be the role model towards the athletes.
