A federal judge sent a county clerk from Kentucky to jail because she refused to give marriage licenses to gay couples.  The clerk, Kim Davis, denied the gay couples marriage licenses because of her own religious beliefs.  Although she's a Christian and doesn't believe in gay marriage, that doesn't give her the right to deny couple the opportunity to get married.  For this reason, the judge sent Davis to jail for not abiding by the legalization of gay marriage ruled by the Supreme Court in June.

Since we are learning about controversial and important Supreme Court cases, this article is relevant because the problem aroused because the Supreme Court ruled that gay marriage is legal.  Outside the court there were many protesters from both sides of the argument.  Half of the people there were yelling "Stand firm Kim" while the other half was yelling "Love won! Love won!"  Whether I agree or disagree with the gay marriage law, what Davis did was both wrong and illegal and she should have been put in jail.  There is no question that if an American citizen does not follow the law, he or she deserves to be prosecuted.

  1. I agree that she has no right to deny a marriage licenses because of her own religious beliefs. This is a controversial topic because of peoples opinions and beliefs but I agree that she deserves to be prosecuted.

  2. Just because her religious beliefs are against gay marriage, doesn't mean that she has to prevent other people from doing it. If she isn't following the law she has the right to be brought to justice.

  3. Some people really will go to the ends of the earth to stand up for there believes, even if it means jail time. You'd think she would have given up before she landed herself in a cell.

  4. Judes have a duty to rule on court cases outside of their own personal preference; Kim Davis should be stripped of her judgeship for letting her religion interfere with the law established by the government.

  5. I agree with out on the fact that Kim Davis was completely out of place. I am a Christian and I am all for gay marriage. Some people need to accept the fact that the times are changing and need to adjust.
