Man Fatally Shoots Masked Intruder Who Turns Out to Be His Dad

Malachi Heilser fatally shot a masked man who happened to be his father.  Malachi's parents were divorced and his mom had a restraining order on his father.  Malachi was at his moms house with his mom, moms boyfriend, and sister.  His dad was holding all three at gunpoint while wearing a ski mask when Malachi shot him.  The teenager said with his dad, he knew something like this was bound to happen. 

This relates to the class because the courts have ruled that if an intruder is in your house and threatening you seriously, you have the right to take lethal force upon them.  The courts have gotten this right because if they charge people with murder for defending themselves, it is a lose lose situation.  I totally agree with what the teenager did.  He protected his mother and sister which is what I would hope everyone would do.  It is terrible that the kid had to kill his own father but who knows what his dad would've done if he wasn't stopped.
